Marilia has a nursing degree from the University of Fortaleza (UNIFOR) and is in the process of completing her postgraduate degree in Occupational Nursing in Fortaleza.
 
She has worked for 6 years in the stroke unit of the General Hospital of Fortaleza, 5 years of which as an assistant nurse with patients in the acute and post-acute phase as well as in the emergency screening of stroke patients, and 1 year as sub-coordinator and coordinator of the stroke unit.
 
She initially joined Boehringer Ingelheim as an access promoter for the certification of spirometry technicians, by the Brazilian society of pulmonology and tisiology.
 
Currently, Marilia acts as a Scientific Educator for the Angels Initiative in Brazil, which has given her the opportunity to work for the purposes she believes in, to improve stroke care.
