Vasiliki Belitsi

Greece

Vasiliki completed her bachelor's degree in Biology at the University of Patras, where her fascination with molecular biology began. Her undergraduate thesis focused on the molecular profile of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), a neurodegenerative disease that has a huge impact on both patients and their families. This early exposure to research allowed her to gain experience in laboratory techniques and a broader understanding of how molecular biology can be applied in clinical research.

After graduating, she did an internship at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. During her internship, her research focus shifted to cancer biology, as she worked on identifying molecular biomarkers for bladder cancer. Having no prior experience with the diagnostic side of molecular biology, she was quickly intrigued by it. She became particularly interested in how molecular data could be used to make diagnosis more practical and accessible.

Motivated by this, Vasiliki pursued a Master’s degree in Clinical Biochemistry and Molecular Diagnostics at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Her studies allowed her to deepen her understanding of biochemistry and molecular biology and expand her knowledge in bioinformatics. Alongside her academic work, Vasiliki gained hands-on experience by working in a diagnostic laboratory. This experience cultivated her discipline, teamwork, and understanding of the healthcare system in Greece.

After spending many years in research and diagnostics labs, Vasiliki felt compelled to apply her knowledge in a way that would make a meaningful and practical difference in people's lives. This desire to serve her community and contribute to a better healthcare in Greece is what led her to join the Angels Initiative, where she hopes to make an impact.
