Denisa Căpățînă

Romania

Denisa’s deep-rooted passion for chemistry and a natural inclination toward helping others led her to pursue a degree in Pharmacy at the “Iuliu Hațieganu” University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Cluj-Napoca. During her academic journey, she discovered a growing passion for research, which inspired her to continue with a PhD in Pharmacy at the same university.
As a doctoral student, she worked as a research assistant in national and European research projects, focusing on developing electrochemical sensors for the detection of bacteria in biological and food samples.  She also completed a two-month research mobility internship at the Chemistry Laboratory of the University of Florence, Italy, where she further expanded her research skills. Throughout her research, she had the opportunity to publish her findings in peer-reviewed scientific journals and received several national and international awards for her contributions.
In parallel with her research, she served as a Teaching Assistant in Analytical Chemistry and Instrumental Analysis. Teaching became a true source of fulfilment for her. She says, "One of the most rewarding moments for me was seeing a student truly understand a concept I was explaining. Supporting others in their learning journey is something I deeply care about."
Eager to continue developing professionally, she completed a residency in Pharmaceutical Laboratory Sciences, earning the title of Specialist Pharmacist. She later embarked on a second residency in the field of Pharmaceutical Industry and Cosmetology.
Her first experience with public health began during her university years, when she served as the Financial Vice President of a national student organization. In that role, she was actively involved in organizing numerous congresses and events for students and healthcare professionals across the country. It was during this time that she realized the power of individual involvement in improving the healthcare system. She says, "Positive change must begin with each of us – we can’t always wait for others to act in our place."
Motivated by a deep desire to make a difference and the courage to take initiative, she found her true calling with the Angels team – a place where her skills, values, and vision come together in meaningful action.
Denisa says, "I don’t believe it’s a coincidence that I joined the Angels team. I feel like my entire journey – my studies, work experience, and volunteer efforts – have prepared me for this moment. Through this program, I finally have the opportunity to contribute to real, lasting change and give stroke patients a true chance at recovery. This was always my dream: to do something that truly matters."
