Dr. Maureen Waweru is a pharmacist, digital healthcare strategist, and healthcare communications professional from Nairobi. She holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology and further specialized in Digital Marketing for Pharmaceuticals through Predictive Analytics. Driven by her passion for patient-centered healthcare and health system improvement, she has built her career at the intersection of clinical pharmacy, healthcare innovation, digital health, and medical education.
During her early career, Maureen gained diverse experience across hospital pharmacy, community pharmacy, pharmacovigilance, and healthcare research. She worked in clinical and research roles at Kenyatta National Hospital, community pharmacy practice, and public health programs, where she developed strong expertise in patient care, medicine safety, antimicrobial stewardship, pharmacovigilance, and healthcare professional engagement.
Her experience was further strengthened through her work at Cipla, where she led digital healthcare engagement initiatives across Sub-Saharan Africa. In this role, she supported cardio-metabolic and respiratory portfolios across multiple African markets including Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ghana, Zambia, Madagascar, and Mauritius. She worked closely with healthcare professionals, sales leaders, and brand teams to drive healthcare education, patient awareness programs, omnichannel campaigns, scientific meetings, and product launches. She also served as Deputy Qualified Person for Pharmacovigilance, supporting medicine safety oversight and regulatory compliance in Kenya.
Maureen joined the Angels Initiative with a strong desire to contribute to improving stroke care systems and patient outcomes across Africa. She is passionate about empowering healthcare professionals through education, collaboration, and system strengthening initiatives that create sustainable impact for patients and communities.
Through her role at Angels, Maureen aims to combine her clinical background, healthcare communications expertise, and passion for healthcare transformation to support hospitals and stroke teams in delivering faster, higher-quality stroke care. She remains committed to helping improve stroke awareness, advancing stroke-ready healthcare systems, and doing everything possible to give stroke patients a better chance at recovery and quality of life.
