Timothy Kimaru

Dr. Timothy Kimaru is a pharmacist, patient safety specialist, and clinical researcher from Kenya with expertise in pharmacovigilance, public health, and healthcare systems strengthening. He holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), a postgraduate qualification in Pharmacovigilance and Pharmacoepidemiology from the University of Nairobi and is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Clinical Research at the University of Liverpool.

Throughout his career, Timothy has focused on advancing patient safety and improving healthcare outcomes through evidence-based practice, quality improvement, and health system strengthening. His experience spans hospital pharmacy, pharmaceutical quality assurance, pharmacovigilance, and public health programmes, providing him with a broad understanding of healthcare delivery and the challenges faced by health systems across Africa.

Prior to joining Angels, Timothy served as Pharmacovigilance Lead for Sub-Saharan Africa at Cipla, where he oversaw medicine safety surveillance, regulatory compliance, risk management, and pharmacovigilance operations across multiple African markets. He worked closely with healthcare professionals, regulatory authorities, and public health stakeholders to strengthen medicine safety systems and promote a culture of patient safety.

Timothy also served as Project Lead for pharmacovigilance activities under the Saving Lives and Livelihoods Programme, a partnership between the Africa CDC and the Mastercard Foundation. In this role, he led initiatives to strengthen pharmacovigilance systems in Kenya, working alongside Ministries of Health, National Regulatory Authorities, and healthcare institutions to enhance medicine and vaccine safety surveillance, build healthcare worker capacity, and support data-driven public health decision-making.

Passionate about patient safety, clinical research, and healthcare transformation, Timothy joined the Angels Initiative to contribute to improving stroke care across Africa. He is driven by the belief that every stroke patient deserves timely access to high-quality, evidence-based care and is committed to supporting healthcare teams in building sustainable systems that improve patient outcomes and save lives.
