About this training

This course has been developed for physicians, with the overarching goal of ensuring that everyone is confident in managing a Code Stroke according to best practice standards and have profound knowledge of the stroke basics.

The program has been conjointly developed by the Australasian Stroke Academy and the Angels Initiative.

 

Course Objective

At the conclusion of this course, physicians will be able to:

  • Describe the serious burden of stroke and their role in addressing this
  • Confidently manage a code stroke in both metropolitan and regional hospitals
  • Assess and manage patients presenting with suspected stroke according to national best practice thereby optimising patient outcomes
  • Know the 5 priorities in stroke care
  • Be confident about implementing the guidelines in each of the four stroke phases

 

Course Structure

The course is divided into 3 sections.

The first section "Stroke Basics" covers the basics of stroke, including introduction, epidemiology, stroke types, pathophysiology, and differences between metropolitan and rural settings.

The second section "5 Priorities to Improve Patient Outcomes" focuses on the Angels WHY with the five key priorities for optimal stroke management: time to treatment, thrombolysis, endovascular therapy, stroke units, and quality monitoring

The final chapter "How to implement the guidelines" explains how to apply best-practice guidelines across all phases of stroke care: pre-hospital, hyperacute, acute, and post-acute.

After completing all modules of the training, each participant will receive a certificate.
